back to peak physique

Recently, I was cleaning out my iPhone photo album and adding my old memories onto a hard drive for safe keeping and to make space for some new ones when I came across some photos of me hiking to three sisters falls here in San Diego.

It was just a year ago that I was looking my leanest, tannest, and happiest self! I just started Pilates and I was going to the gym at least 5 times or more a week.

Though I am in decent shape now, I have put on some weight again. And these photos reminded me of the dedication and drive I had just one year ago almost to the day. I have known that I haven’t been feeling as mentally motivated in the gym or pilates as I was just a few months back. I am definitely not eating as clean as I should or hitting the steps I need to daily. The thought that came to mind when I saw these photos was that I have to get back to a routine where movement is priority again.

Lately, the gym has felt more like a chore than a privilege. When I was making the gym a priority, I was excited to work out everyday and I felt extreme gratitude to move my body. Below are photos from when I was at my heaviest and within this same month I started going to the gym regularly.

Though I have kept my weight at a maintenance I never want to go back to the overweight and unhappy version of myself. I know just how easy it is to do. I have done it before. It’s so much easier to gain weight than lose it in my opinion and because I know this to be true I know just how much work and effort it takes to keep it off.

As I am reflecting on the things I was doing around the time I was working out rigorously, I realize it was all very much mental. I have to get back to a point where I am in tune with my body and mind. So I want to start documenting this journey in order to keep track of my progress.

When I started in the gym a few years ago I had definitely thought I would have a better physique by now. And yes, I may look better now than when I had first started years back… I know what it’s like to look leaner and stronger and that is the state I prefer to be in.

So today marks day one of getting back to the gym with intention, knowing so much more now than I had when I first started, I have experience on my side and the will to overcome this momentary mental block.
